ABOUT US >
Nycletha McCarley, Executive Director of Operations
Born and raised in an area besieged by high crime, high dropout rates and apathy among
youth, Ms. McCarley learned at an early age to show thanks for her blessings through
service to the community. In high school, where she graduated second in her class, Ms.
McCarley was a volunteer tutor; in college, she volunteered as a teacher's aide and with the
campus group Alternative Spring Break. Ultimately, Nykky (as known to friends), took a
year off from an engineering program to enact change in her hometown. Her contributions
included coordinating and implementing a social service program for the community. It
was at that moment Nykky decided to make a difference in socially disadvantaged
communities by developing a non-profit organization that would provide needed services to
the disenfranchised and at-risk youth.
Seven (7) years later, after a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master's of
Management degree, both from Northwestern University, Community Advancement
Initiatives, INC came into being. While maintaining her position as an Engineering and
Validation Manager at a Fortune 500 company, Nykky is still able to manage the day-to-day
operations of CAI, Inc. and juggle a $1.5 million budget in one of Abbott Laboratories
chemical manufacturing plants. She is also a winning grant writer and has provided
start-up assistance to several organizations.
Lee Cameron, Director of Program Development
Mr. Cameron is the grandson and son of Indiana Mill workers. From these humble
beginnings rose a compassionate heart, honed in the hallowed halls of a small church in
an urban area. His grandmother, as church mother, taught him the sustaining power of
faith over adversity. His father, as jazz musician turned minister, taught him the renewing
and restorative power of spirituality. After graduating with a bachelor's degree from the
University of Wisconsin and an MBA from the Keller Graduate School of Business, Lee
went on to successful careers as a tax accountant and business entrepreneur. In the early
90s, Lee decided to apply his business expertise, which had garnered him many
achievements, to help a non-profit organization dependent on donations reach full capacity.
He was tasked with achieving this objective within 7 years; using a strategy of diversified
funding, Lee achieved it within 5 years.
Lee continues to effect change in economically distressed communities through innovative
social service programming efforts. He has a proven track record of successful projects in
non-profit organizations and his background includes writing winning grant proposals of
increasing scope and value, raising over $20,000,000 in the course of his career.
